I think it’s safe to say that salmon is my favorite fish. It’s flaky and flavorful, without a super strong fishy flavor. Miso Glazed Salmon

This glazed miso salmon is incredibly good! It is also very easy to prepare, so you will definitely love this recipe. The real magic of this recipe is the miso glaze. The miso glaze tastes like the best sweet and savory sauce you’ve ever had and it pairs perfectly with the salmon. Miso paste is made from fermented soybeans which has a deep umami flavor with a hint of funk. If you like soy sauce, you’ll love this frosting. If you love frosting, then you’ll have to try this homemade hoisin sauce and jar sticker sauce!

I love seafood, especially with an Asian twist. I feel like the savory flavors of things like sesame oil, rice vinegar, and miso paste go so well with fish. You can definitely try this glaze on other pieces of fish like snapper or cod. I bet it’s even delicious with scallops and shrimp! No matter what you cook, it will be amazing. I’ve never had anyone try this miso frosting who didn’t ask me for the recipe.

Salmon is definitely the star of this glazed miso salmon recipe. If you’re not sure about choosing the perfect piece of salmon, I’m sharing my tips below in the tip box. In my opinion, the best part of this recipe is that you also get the perfect miso glaze recipe! You can use this glaze on many other proteins and vegetables (it’s perfect with a stir-fry!).

  • Salmon fillets: I like to buy half a salmon which is usually about 2 pounds and cut it into four salmon fillets.
  • Salt and pepper: It’s for seasoning the salmon. The icing is already quite salty from the soy sauce, so you might want to choose a low-sodium soy sauce to reduce some of the salt.
  • miso paste: Miso paste is a fermented soybean paste. You can use white miso or red miso, I chose red for this sauce.
  • I am Willow: It’s the perfect duo with miso paste. It pairs perfectly with all the other flavors and helps the sauce get to the right consistency.
  • brown sugar: The brown sugar adds a sweetness that balances out the savory flavors. You can use honey instead if you like.
  • Rice vinegar: It’s the perfect way to brighten up the glaze. It’s kinda sweet and sour like apple cider vinegar. In fact, you can replace rice vinegar with apple cider vinegar in no time. Rice wine vinegar might also work.
  • Sesame oil: This has an earthy, nutty flavor that is perfect on top of all the other ingredients.
  • Green onions and sesame seeds: This is an optional garnish. I think it makes the dish complete and adds a lot of fresh flavor

Miso Glazed Salmon Recipe

Cooking miso glazed salmon is so easy! You will start cooking the fish in a pan in the oven. Then you’ll take it out and add some more of your miso glaze to give it a nice caramel crust and toast it. This makes all the sugars in the sauce nice and sticky, just like they do in a restaurant! This dish is easy and full of flavor, and it’s a great way to get the whole family to try something new.

  1. Season the salmon: Salt and pepper the salmon.
  2. Whip Ingredients: In a small bowl, add the miso paste, soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar and sesame oil. Whisk together until smooth. Reserve 1 tablespoon of marinade.
  3. Marinade: In a medium bowl, add salmon and sauce. Leave to marinate for 1 to 3 hours.
  4. Cook the salmon: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. In a large ovenproof skillet or skillet, add the salmon and discard the marinade. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until the fish is almost cooked through and opaque. Brush with reserved glaze and grill over high heat 1-2 minutes until fish reaches 125-130 degrees in center.
  5. Garnish and enjoy: Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds if desired.

  • Choose a good salmon: When looking for salmon at the store, the color of the fish will tell you a lot. If it has a very nice dark pink color, it will be tasty and full of good nutrients. You don’t want a pale, orange, wet room. When you poke it, the meat should bounce back. If it leaves a dip, the fish is not as fresh as you would like.
  • What to serve it with: I love the miso salmon over brown rice and a side of edamame. It also goes very well with roasted vegetables or even miso soup (never too much miso in my opinion!). You can also serve this salmon over an Asian ramen salad for a heartier, more complete meal.
  • Making the icing: This frosting is so simple. All you have to do is put all the ingredients in a bowl and whisk! I prefer red miso paste, which you should be able to find in the refrigerated section of your grocery store. You can use low sodium soy sauce to reduce some of the salt content. If you don’t have rice vinegar on hand, you can use apple cider vinegar as a great substitute. Sesame oil is really strong in flavor, so make sure you don’t overdo it, and you’ll have the perfect glaze!
