Apple Pecan Crisp Ingredients
Once you have Granny Smith apples in hand, you won’t be able to resist making this delicious dessert! It’s perfect for fall and I love bringing in the classic fall spices like cinnamon and cardamom to really elevate this dessert. See the recipe card at the bottom of the article for exact measurements.
- Granny Smith apples: I like to use green apples because their tangy flavor complements sweet ingredients perfectly. I also peel my apples before adding them to my baking dish.
- Lemon juice: Lemon juice keeps apples fresh and helps prevent browning.
- brown sugar: This adds a deep flavor and helps cream a caramelized texture.
- Plain flour: I used all-purpose flour for this recipe.
- Cinnamon: This classic flavor is a must-have for any fall apple recipe!
- Cardamom: This adds a bit of spicy mint flavor that goes so well with the cinnamon.
- Ginger: Ginger brings a very slightly spicy and sweet flavor combination to the dessert.
- Pecan nuts: You will use part of the pecans with the apples and the other half will go into the filling.
Breadcrumb filling
- Plain flour: I used all purpose flour in the filling.
- Old fashioned oats: The oats provide a fantastic texture that makes the top crumble.
- brown sugar: This is a MUST if you want the sauce to caramelize and add some extra sweet flavors.
- Cinnamon and nutmeg: These fall flavors complement the apple mix.
- Salt: The salt enhances all the flavors of the apple and pecan crunch.
- Butter: I used cold unsalted butter to easily cut it into cubes.

Cooking tips and variations
Apple Pecan Crisp is just as delicious as it looks! Here are some tips and variations you can use to switch things up and make your dessert perfect for your family.
- Breadcrumb filling: When you mix in your breadcrumb topping, you shouldn’t see any cubes of butter left behind. When you pinch your fingers, the filling should stick.
- Nuts: If you’re not a fan of pecans, you can change the type of nut! Try walnuts or slivered almonds instead!
- Icing: I love adding vanilla ice cream to this Apple Pecan Crisp when it’s hot, but you can also try drizzling warmed cream cheese frosting as the frosting!

How to store leftovers
Luckily for you, this Apple Pecan Crisp keeps well and you can enjoy it for a few days after making it! It’s so good you might want to double the recipe to definitely have some leftovers!
- At room temperature: Once your pecan apple chips have cooled, you can store them in an airtight container at room temperature. It will last about 2-4 days!
- To reheat: You can reheat it in the microwave and top it with fresh vanilla ice cream; it will be as good as the day you baked it!
